Columbia Pictures is developing Jumanji 3a new installment of the franchise Jumanjiwith the returns of the leading quartet, Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan, Kevin Hart y Jack Blackin addition to the return of director Jake Kasdan, who directed Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017), y Jumanji: The Next Level (2019).
The most recent news announces that the studio has set the theatrical release date of Jumanji 3 for December 11, 2026. The launch includes screenings in IMAX format theaters and premium formats (via Variety).
The saga follows a group of teenagers who become trapped inside a video game, where they take the physical form of their avatars.
Jumanji: Welcome to the Junglein turn a sequel to the classic Jumanji (1995), starring Robin Williams, was a surprise blockbuster. It collected $962.1 million at the global box office.
The sequel, Jumanji: The Next Levelaccumulated more than $800 million worldwide.
Matt Tolmach, Johnson, Kasdan, Dany García, and Hiram García, producers of the second installment, return as producers of Jumanji 3. Tolmach also produced the first film with William Teitler.
In 2021, Hiram García told ComicBook about the third installment:
“We have a big vision for the next Jumanji movie. So we're excited about that. We will carry it out soon. And obviously the goal is that some time later… Jake [Kasdan] is doing Red One for us, so that will be next. But some time after Red One is released, Jumanji will be on deck. I feel like we will have everything ready by then and we can start with that third installment.”
Hart, for his part, suggested to Variety in 2023 that Jumanji 3 would mark the end of their characters:
“We need something big to end our duo, and not just leave it unfinished.”
