Lee Croninscreenwriter and director of Evil Dead Rise y The Hole in the Groundis preparing to carry out a new horror project in association with Blumhouse of Jason Blum y Atomic Monster of James Wan.
According to THR reports, the mysterious project is described as “a modern version of something ancient.”
New Line Cinema will release the film with a release date set for April 17, 2026.
This is the first project from the merger of Blumhouse with Atomic Monster.
Cronin will write and direct the film.
The filmmaker said in a press release:
“Collaborating with Jason, James and the wonderful teams at these two historic and hugely successful organizations is what perfect nightmares are made of. Returning to New Line Cinema and my wonderful partners there is the icing on the cake.”
Cronin promised “something wickedly entertaining and terrifying.”
Wan called Cronin “a talented filmmaker in the horror world whose storytelling has electrified audiences,” while Blum added, “he has an intriguing, modern take on something pretty old that I think audiences will love.”
Cronin's company, Doppelgängers, will be another of the production companies on the recently announced project.
Cronin became known to the horror genre fan audience with his feature film The Whole in the Ground (2019), which had its premiere at Sundance that year, and was later released under the A24 label. In April 2023, Cronin premiered in theaters around the world Evil Dead Risea new installment of the franchise Evil Dead which delighted critics and audiences alike. The film grossed $147 million worldwide. The film is available to stream on Max.
