With the departure of Bob Iger, and the appointment of Josh D'Amaro as the new CEO of Disney, a shareholders meeting was held in which D'Amaro officially confirmed the release date of two important animated projects in development at the Mouse House.
On the one hand, Lilo & Stitch 2a live-action sequel to the blockbuster Lilo & Stitch (2025), will be released on May 26, 2028 in theatersduring Memorial Day weekend, and The Incredibles 3 from Pixar will be released June 16, 2028At the moment, there is no competition from any other studio on either date.
As a curious fact, we share with you that the live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch also premiered during Memorial Day Weekend in 2025, breaking the record as the best premiere in said celebration, with $182 million, surpassing Top Gun: Maverick ($160.5 million in 2022). The animated film also became the first film to exceed one billion at the box office in 2025.
The live-action follows the line of the original film, co-written and co-directed by Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois. Dean Fleischer (Marcel the Shell with Shoes On) directed the script of Chris Kekaniokalani Bright y Mike Van Waes.
The plot revolves around orphaned sisters, Lilo, a lonely 6-year-old girl, and teenager Nani, who live in Hawaii, and adopt a blue, chaotic alien creature, Experiment 626, better known as Stitch, while Nani tries to prove that she is a viable guardian for her younger sister Lilo.
Chris Sanders reprized his role voicing Stitch in the original language, Stitch was brought to life via CGI, while Lilo Pelekai was voiced by Maia Kealoha.
For its part, the two previous installments of the franchise The incrediblesgrossed a combined $1.87 billion at the global box office. The first was released in 2004, and the second in 2018. The director of both, Brad Birdreturns to the third as screenwriter and producer, with Peter son (Elemental) as director.
