Melissa Barrera continues her journey through horror films to establish herself as one of the modern “Scream Queens”.
After releasing this year the horror comedy Abigailthe Mexican actress is preparing for the premiere of Your Monster, A romantic horror comedy, with a dash of beauty and the beastwhich has just revealed its first official trailer through Vertical Entertainment.
In the plot, Barrera plays Laura Franco, an aspiring actress who is going through an absolutely heartbreaking year that gets even worse after her boyfriend ends their relationship. Struggling to cope with the life she now has ahead of her, Laura can't help but just keep going day after day. But, just when she thought her world was already turned upside down, things spiral even further out of control when Laura discovers a charming monster living inside her closet. With the monster's help, Laura pulls herself together and allows herself to feel all the resentments and anger that have been building up for years.
The film marks the debut of Caroline Lindy as a feature film writer and director. Lindy drew inspiration from her own life to write parts of the script, turning it into a short film in 2019.
In addition to Barrera, the main cast includes: Tommy Dewey (The Mindy Project), Edmund Donovan (Civil War), Meghann Fahy (The White Lotus), Kayla Foster (The Deuce), Lana Young (The Resident).

“Your Monster tells the story of soft-spoken actress Laura Franco (Melissa Barrera), who is dumped by her longtime boyfriend (Edmund Donovan) while recovering from surgery and retreats to her childhood home to recuperate. With her future looking bleak, insult is added to injury when Laura discovers her ex is putting on a musical she helped him develop.
“But out of these harrowing life changes emerges a monster (Tommy Dewey) with whom she finds a connection, encouraging Laura to follow her dreams, open her heart and fall in love with her inner rage.”
Your Monster held its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January of this year.
The feature film's producers are Kayla Foster, Shannon Reilly, Melanie Donkers and Kira Carstensen.
Vertical releases it in theaters on October 25, 2024.
