The 2001 novel, The Correctionswill be adapted to the small screen with the television series launched by CBS Studioswith none other than Meryl Streep in a leading role, reported Deadline.

Jonathan Franzenauthor of the novel, will be in charge of adapting the script for the series.

The plot centers on the chronicle of a Midwestern couple and their adult children.

Franzen will executive produce alongside wiip's Mark Roybal and Nicole Clemens. CBS Studios produces the television project with wiip.

This is not the first attempt to adapt Franzen's novel, although it does seem like the definitive one. In 2011, HBO launched a pilot directed by Noah Baumbach. Scott Rudin previously developed it as a feature film, and he himself was on board as executive producer of the HBO pilot, alongside Baumbach and Franzen. It was going to star Chris Cooper, Dianne Wiest, Ewan McGregor, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Rhys Ifans and Greta Gerwig. HBO scrapped the pilot in 2012.

This will be the most recent television project for Streep, who in recent years joined Big Little Lies from HBO, and more recently to Only Murders in the Building de Hulu.
