Mickey Mouse slasher 'The Mouse Trap' reveals trailer

On January 1, 2024, the copyright for the 1928 short film expired, Steamboat Williegiving way to this version of the iconic character Mickey Mouse will enter the public domain.

Immediately after, some horror-themed projects inspired by this version of the character began to be announced, one of them being Mickey’s Mouse Trapa low-budget independent slasher horror film, filmed before the character was in the public domain, by the director Jamie Bailey and script of Simon Phillips.

With the release of the official trailer, it is revealed that the official title of the slasher project is The Mouse Trapand will be released in VOD by Gravitas Ventures on August 6, 2024followed by his debut in Blu-ray on August 13th.

SYNOPSIS THE MOUSE TRAP:

“It’s Alex’s 21st birthday, but she’s stuck in the arcade on a night shift, so her friends decide to surprise her, but a masked killer dressed as Mickey Mouse decides to play his own game with them that she must survive.”

The main cast is made up of Sophie McIntosh, Callum Sywyk, Allegra Nocita, Ben Harris, Damir Kovic, Mackenzie Mills, Nick Biskupek, and the scriptwriter himself Simon Phillips.

Previously, Baile told THR:

“We just wanted to have fun with it. I mean, it’s Mickey Mouse from Steamboat Willie murdering people. It’s ridiculous. We did it and we had fun doing it and I think it shows.”

ATTENTION TO THE DATA: The only version of Mickey that is in the public domain is the one portrayed in Steamboat Willie. It will also be necessary to know if the name Mickey Mouse can be used in these new and recently announced projects.

This is similar to what happened with Winnie the Pooh, a character originally introduced to audiences in the 1920s by author AA Milne. The version of the character that Disney turned into a pop culture icon is not available in the public domain, while the original incarnation of the character is.
