Mike Flanagan is ready to tackle another of the literary works of Stephen King. Reports from Deadline confirm that the director will adapt the classic Carriein television series format, for Amazon.
Flanagan will be the showrunner of the series that will consist of 8 episodes. A writers' room is being set up, so the project is moving quickly.
Previously, Flanagan wrote and directed feature films adapting King material such as Doctor Sleep y Gerald’s Game. More recently he adapted The Life of Chuckwhich celebrated its world premiere at TIFF 2024, where it won the People's Choice Award.
the novel Carrie was published in 1974, with a premise about the passage from childhood to adulthood, following a young woman overprotected by a domineering mother, whose bullying at school caused unimaginable bloody consequences due to her hyperkinetic powers.
The subject was first adapted for the big screen in 1976, with the film directed by Brian De Palma and a cast consisting of Sissy Spacek, John Travolta, Piper Laurie, Amy Irving, Nancy Allen, Betty Buckley and William Katt.
The film became a horror hit that led to other projects, including a sequel, and a remake in 2013.
Flanagan and Trevor Macy will executive produce the series.
King is an auteur whose material is constantly adapted for the big and small screen. This same year it was launched Salem’s Lot in Max, from director Gary Dauberman. Other King adaptations along the way include, The Long Walk (dir. Francis Lawrence), The Institute (dir. Jack Bender), and The Running Man (Edgar Wright).
