Minas serves poorly, and Cruzeiro wins seventh Volleyball Super Cup title

Dominant in Brazilian volleyball, Cruzeiro confirmed its favoritism once again on Sunday night (19), by winning the seventh Super Cup title by beating rival Minas by 3 sets to 0, with splits of 25/19, 25/20 and 25/17, at Ginásio Guanandizão, in Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul. Pointer Douglas Souza was the main name of the match, with 18 points.

Serving was Minas' weak point in the match against Cruzeiro, with a total of 20 points given to the opponent on this basis, without achieving any ace. The problem was decisive, especially in the second set, when the team opened up a five-point lead on the scoreboard, but, without consistency in their serve, suffered a comeback.

The duel for the Super Cup marked the third Minas Gerais classic of the season, as the teams faced each other on two other occasions for the state championship. In addition to winning in the first phase, Cruzeiro also came out on top in the final, played last Sunday (12). On that occasion, the team reached its 16th consecutive title. In April this year, the team became Superliga champions for the ninth time, beating Campinas, in São Paulo.

In the history of the Volleyball Super Cup, Cruzeiro appears as the biggest winner, with six titles, the last being won in 2024, against Sesi-Bauru. Minas competed in the competition in 2022, but came second after defeat to Cruzeiro, and continues in search of an unprecedented title.

1st set: Cruzeiro 25 x 19 Minas

The current champion of Minas Gerais and the Superliga started the game with calm and efficient attack, opening a comfortable lead on the scoreboard from the first part of the set. For the celestial team, pointer Douglas Souza stood out in blocking, with three points on this basis. On the other side, Minas abused mistakes, giving up seven service points to the opponent. The team sought a reaction in the final stretch of the partial and reduced the advantage, but was unable to prevent Cruzeiro's 25-19 victory.

2nd set: Cruzeiro 25 x 20 Minas

After a dominant first set, Cruzeiro returned to the court unfocused and with little efficiency in attack, giving Minas chances to gain an advantage on the scoreboard, as the celestial team could only score due to errors on the opponent's serve. After requesting a timeout from coach Filipe Ferraz, the team reorganized on the court and Wallace, Douglas Souza and Lucão returned to shine, putting Cruzeiro back in the lead on the scoreboard. Once again, Minas' main weak point was the serve. In the second set, eight points were conceded on this basis.

3rd set: Cruzeiro 25 x 17 Minas

Once again, Cruzeiro started the partial in a lower rotation, however, offensive errors and problems with Minas' serve persisted, as they did not take advantage of the opportunity at the beginning of the most balanced set of the entire match. Thus, he saw the celestial team grow and open up an advantage on the scoreboard. The point of the game was the portrait of the match, in a service error by Minas.
