The history of the iconic United States Women's Soccer Teamwhich won world gold in 1999, will come to the screen with the help of Netflixwith the sports drama titled The 99’ers.
The film adaptation is based on the book The Girls of Summer: The US Women’s Soccer Team and How It Changed the Worldby Jeré Longman.
Nicole Kassell (Watchmen, Sirens) directs the script of Katie Lovejoy (Love at First Sight, To All the Boys: Always and Forever), Dana Stevens (The Woman King, Fatherhood) y Peter Hedges (Ben is Back).
The 99’ers follows the United States Women's National Soccer Team who, in 1999, under the scorching summer sun and in a stadium packed with 93,000 fans, defied all odds to emerge victorious in a dramatic penalty shootout against China in the World Cup final. This monumental victory captivated millions of people around the world and forever changed the course of women's sports..

The cast is led by Zoey Deutch (Anniversary) playing the president and CEO of the committee that organized the 1999 FIFA Women's World Cup, Marla Messing; Emily Bader (People We Mee ton Vacation) will play the goal scorer Mia Hamm; Emilia Jones (Task) plays midfielder Julie Foudy; Julia McDermott (Women of the Movement) as defender Brandi Chastain; Shaunette Renée Wilson (Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny) as goalkeeper Briana Scurry; Perry Mattfeld (Chad Powers) as forward/midfielder Michelle Akers; Annabel O'Hagan (Fallout) as captain and central defender Carla Overbeck; Lizzy Greene (Ransom Canyon) as midfielder Kristine Lilly; Isabelle Fuhrman (Orphan) as defender Joy Fawcett; and Alessandro Nivola (The Brutalist) plays the national team's coach, Tony DiCicco.
Liza Chasin produces for 3Dot Productions, alongside Hayley Stool and Ross Greenburg, with executive producers Marla Messing, Jill Mazursky, and Krista Smith.
Filming will begin this March.
