Last March, it was announced that Neve Campbell will be back for Scream 7, the next installment of the popular slasher horror saga Scream.
Campbell will reprise her iconic role as “Scream Queen” Sidney Prescott after a pay dispute with Spyglass Media Group left her out of the sixth film, Scream VI (2023).
The sequel, which currently has no official title and is referred to as Untitled Scream 7 o Scream VIIwill be directed by Kevin Williamsonthe creator and screenwriter of the original 1996 installment.
Williamson wrote the original installment, as well as the sequels, Scream 2 y Scream 4He has been the executive producer of the two most recent films, Scream 5 y Scream VI.
- Williamson took over the reins as director following Christopher Landon's departure late last year. This will be his debut as director of an installment in the franchise. Scream.
The latest news, shared by Campbell herself, reveals that production will begin this year. Scream 7According to statements made by the actress to IndieWire, filming will begin in December:
“I'm very, very happy that this is happening. We were supposed to start [el rodaje] in September, but now we're going to start in December because of some logistical issues with Kevin and I and having all that lined up.And I actually think that's a good thing, because we're going to have the time to do it really well. So I'm really excited about that.”
The script of Scream 7 written by Guy Busickbased on a story of James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. Both wrote the script for Scream 5 y Scream 6.
Vanderbilt produce Scream 7 alongside William Sherak and Paul Neinstein of Project X Entertainment, and executive producers Radio Silence (Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett and Chad Villella).
Plans for the seventh Scream changed dramatically when Spyglass fired star Melissa Barrera for posts about the war between Israel and Hamas, which the company deemed anti-Semitic. A few days later it was announced that Jenna Ortega was also out due to work scheduling conflicts.
The most recent sequel, Scream VI o Scream 6was released in theaters in March 2023, grossing over $168 million worldwide, breaking the record for the highest domestic (US) box office gross for the slasher series with $108.1 million.
Paramount Pictures has not announced a release date for Scream VII.
