We are three weeks away from the theatrical release of the long-awaited sequel Gladiator 2 from director Ridley Scott, which takes us back to the Roman Colosseum of ancient Rome, with a plot set two decades after the events of the acclaimed Gladiator.

The latest in the marketing campaign is a new official poster promoting the performances of the Cinemark movie chain, the third largest in the United States (behind AMC Theaters and Regal Cinemas). The image shows us all ready for the great battle inside the venue.

The story centers on Lucius (Paul Mescal), grandson of the former Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius and son of the emperor Commodus. Lucius, the former heir to the Empire, now a slave who must fight for his own existence, following an invasion led by the Roman general Marcus Acacius (Pedro Pascal), wants his own story of revenge and competes as a gladiator after being inspired by the exploits of Maximus (Russell Crowe) as a child.

Mescal (Aftersun, Normal People, All of Us Strangers) plays the adult version of Lucius, a role that was played by Spencer Treat Clark in the original 2000 installment.

Rome is now under the yoke of the brothers Greta and Caracalla (Joseph Quinn, Fred Hechinger). It also comes into play Denzel Washingtonplaying Macrinus, former slave and power broker, now owner of a group of gladiators, scheming politician and arms dealer.

By the way, Scott and his production team built their own Roman Colosseum for Gladiator 2 also known as Gladiator II.
