Next Sunday the awards season will conclude with the presentation of the Oscar Award 2026.
The 98th Academy Award, presented by Conan O’Brien for the second consecutive year, will feature two live performances of the five nominees for Best Original Songsomething the ceremony's producers cited as “time constraints and broader structural changes to the broadcast” in a letter sent to members in January.
The AMPAS has confirmed which will be the two musical performances on stage that will highlight the nominees in said category: KPop Demon Hunters y Sinners.
KPop Demon Hunters has been the most talked about animated film of the season, becoming an absolute viewing hit for Netflix. Sinnersfor its part, made history by obtaining 16 Oscar nominations, breaking the record as the most nominated film in the 98 years of the Oscar, surpassing the 14 nominations of All About Eve (1950), Titanic (1997), y La La Land (2016).
Executive producer and showrunner Raj Kapoor and executive producer Katy Mullan announced the cast of talent, which will include the voices behind Huntr/x —Ejae, Audrey Nuna y Rei Ami— interpreting success “Golden” of KPop Demon Huntersalready the star of Sinners, Miles Catonand the composer Raphael Sadiq to interpret “I Lied to You”.
According to the Oscar Academy announcement, the moment KPop Demon Hunters will begin with a “fusion of traditional Korean instrumentalists and dance, celebrating folklore and cultural inspiration” that anchors the story of the animated blockbuster.
Meanwhile, the performance of Sinners will include a larger tribute to Ryan Coogler's acclaimed film and its unique visual stylesince Caton and Saadiq will be accompanied by the ballet dancer Misty Copeland; the musicians Eric Gales, Shaboozey, Brittany Howard, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, Bobby Rush y Alice Smith; and the co-stars Buddy Guy, Jayme Lawson y Li Jun Li.
In Sinners, “I Lied to You” is performed during the explosive and crucial musical sequence from Coogler's film, exploring catharsis of the character Sammie (Caton), with a montage that fuses musical genres ancestral, with others like blues, hip-hop, and rap, representing freedom, connection, emotion and truth (available below).
The statement continues:
“This year, our musical presentations are inspired by two of the most powerful cultural phenomena in cinema: Sinnersthe most nominated film in Oscar history, and KPop Demon Huntersa global pop culture sensation. These moments from the show are more than just presentations: they become cinematographic tributes that celebrate the relationship between music and narrative, and why these films connected so deeply with audiences around the world.”
The 98th edition of the Oscars will take place on Sunday, March 15, 2026 from the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, broadcast live on ABC and Hulu in the United Statessharply at 4pm PT, and by TNT y HBO Max in Mexico and the rest of Latin America starting at 6pm (CDMX).
