In January 2024, Paramount Pictures will release a new film adaptation of Mean Girls which will have musical elements. By the time it is released, 20 years will have passed between the release of the original film and this new installment.

This recent version features the return of Tina Fey both as a writer and producer, and a member of the cast, reprising her role as Ms. Norbury. In a featurette recently shared with the audience, Fey, along with the rest of the cast, explain what we can expect from this musical comedy, which has integrated music and new jokes to delight the public. “A modernized version but at the same time winks at the original,” explains Fey.

Meanwhile, we tell you that the new group of “mean girls” is made up of Renee Rapp (The Sex Lives of College Girls) as Queen Bee Regina George, Angourie Rice (Mare of Easttown, The Last Thing He Told Me) as Cady, Bebe Wood (Love, Victor, The Real O’Neals, The New Normal) like Gretchen, and avantika (The Sex Lives of College Girls) characterizing Karen.

The rest of the main cast has Auli'i Cravalho (Crush, All Together Now) like Janis, Jaquel Spivey like Damian, and Christopher Briney (The Summer I Turned Pretty) like Aaron. As a curious fact, Rapp played Regina George in the Broadway musical. Another one who is back reprising his role from the original is Tim Meadows like Director Duvall.

Other cast members include Busy Philipps (Cougar Town, Vice Principals) como Mrs. George, Jenna Fischer (The Office) like Cady's mom, Jon Hamm (The Morning Show, Mad Men) like Coach Carr, Mahi Alam as Kevin Ganatra, Connor Ratliff as Mr. Rapp, and director of the Broadway musical Mean Girls, Ashley Park (Emily in Paris, Joy Ride), in a new role since in the staging she plays Gretchen,

The direction is carried out by Arturo Pérez Jr.y Samantha Jayne. The co-directors worked together behind the scenes on the short films Less Than One, Vanity, Dan Miller y Quarter Life Poetry: Poems for the Young, Broke & Hangry. Mean Girls marks Jayne's debut as a feature film director.

Mean Girls ruled out its original exclusive release on Paramount Plus, and will have traditional distribution in theaters, premiering on the big screen on January 12, 2024.
