Warner Bros. revealed the first official poster for the sequel Joker: Folie à Deux from the director Todd Phillipswith a glance focused on Joaquin Phoenix in his return as Joker, and Lady Gaga like Harley Quinn.
Accompanied by the slogan, “The world is a stage,” the poster sees Phoenix's Joker lovingly watching Gaga's Harley Quinn while they hug while dancing. Phoenix holds Gaga's neck with one hand while holding a cigarette in the other, and her makeup is smudged.
The studio announced that the first trailer will premiere next week, on Tuesday, April 9.

The project also features the return of Zazie Beetz reprising her role as Sophie Dumond, and the additions of Catherine Keener (Get Out, The 40 Year Old Virgin), Brendan Gleeson (In Bruges, Harry Potter, Mr. Mercedes), Jacob Lofland (Mud), y Harry Lawtey (Industry).
The acclaimed JOKER (2019) by Phillips follows Arthur Fleck and his journey to becoming the crime clown, serving as the iconic villain's origin story, unfolding its plot in 1980s Gotham City.
Waiting to learn details about the premise of the sequel, It is known that it will have musical elements and that it will be set in Arkham Asylumwhich is where the first movie ends after Arthur Fleck (Phoenix) was sent there.
It has been confirmed that This film will exist outside of James Gunn and Peter Safran's DCUthe new co-presidents of DC Studios.
Phillips co-wrote the script with Scott Silver. They both co-wrote Joker (2019).
SOME DATA:
- The literal translation of Folie à Deux is in English Madness for Two, and in Spanish Madness for two. But it's also a term for “shared psychosis” or “shared delusional disorder,” which could be a direct reference to Joker and Quinn.
- Joker is known for his on-again, off-again abusive relationship with Harley Quinn, his psychiatrist at the mental institution known as Arkham Asylum, who falls in love with him and becomes his sidekick and partner in crime.
- Filming began in early December 2022 in Los Angeles, CA. Production later moved to NYC, where it spent around three to four weeks filming.
- This is one of the few projects that has not suffered changes, cancellations or modifications after the merger of Warner Bros. Discovery (details here).
The first film grossed $335.4 million and, worldwide, is the highest-grossing R-rated film in history with $1.007 billion. Joker won two Oscars: Best Actor (Phoenix) and Original Score (Hildur Guðnadóttir). The film was nominated for 11 Oscars, including Best Picture and Phillips for Best Director. By November 2019, a few weeks after the film's theatrical release, WB gave the green light to the sequel about the DC villain.
Joker: Folie à Deux opens in theaters on October 4, 2024.
