To celebrate the start of filming Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mysterythe third in the universe Knives Outthe screenwriter and director Rian Johnson shared the first look at Daniel Craig in his return as Detective Benoit Blanc.

Johnson wrote on Twitter/X:

“Aaaaand we're leaving! Today is day 1 of filming for the next Benoit Blanc mystery, “Wake Up Dead Man.” See you on the other side.”

You can find Craig's image at the end of this note.

Craig is accompanied by a stellar cast made up of Cailee Spaeny (Civil War, Alien: Romulus), Josh O’Connor (Challengers, The Crown), Andrew Scott (Fleabag, All of Us Strangers), Kerry Washington (Scandal), Glenn Close (Tehran, The New Look), Jeremy Renner (Mayor of Kingstown, Avengers), Mila Kunis (Bad Moms, Luckiest Girl Alive), Daryl McCormack (Twisters, Good Luck to You, Leo Grande), Josh Brolin (Sicario, Dune: Part Two) y Thomas Haden Church (Twisted Metal, Horizon: An American Saga).

Wake Up Dead Man will premiere in Netflix in 2025with a plot that will develop “Benoit Blanc's most dangerous case so far.”

Prior to the start of production, Johnson shared the following on his Twitter/X:

I love everything about whodunnits, but one of the things I love most is how malleable the genre is. There's a whole tonal spectrum from Carr to Christie, and exploring that range is one of the most exciting things about making Benoit Blanc films.

We're about to start production on the third and I'm very, very excited to share the title, which gives a little hint of where it's headed.

The so-called “whodunit cinema” had a kind of resurgence with the premiere of the first film, which became the second highest-grossing original film of the year 2019, in addition to having earned the recognition of critics and the audience, and that of colleagues in the film industry, being recognized with an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay (Johnson).

After the great success of Knives OutNetflix paid Lionsgate for the distribution rights to the next two films under the moniker A Knives Out Mystery, for the not inconsiderable amount of $450 million dollars. The sequel was released in December 2022 Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery on Netflix, with a limited release in US theaters.

The first film focuses on Benoit Blanc (Craig) as he attempts to solve the murder of prominent murder mystery writer Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer). The sequel, Glass OnionBlanc became embroiled in another murder plot on the private island of eccentric millionaire Miles Bron (Edward Norton), which, according to Netflix reports, was viewed a total of 359.8 million hours in the first 28 days of availability on the streamer.
