The filmmaker Jane Schoenbrun (I Saw the TV Glow) and MUBI, are celebrating this Friday the 13th, sharing the first looks at their slasher, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma.

The meta slasher starring Hannah Einbinder (Hacks) y Gillian Anderson (Sex Education), follows a queer filmmaker hired to direct a new installment of a long-running horror film franchise. The director becomes obsessed with the idea of ​​casting the “Final Girl” from the original film, and the two women fall into a frenzy of psychosexual madness.

The film has previously been described as “Portrait of a Lady on Fire set in a sequel to Friday the 13th.

The images shared by MUBI on Instagram do not detail much about the project, although they do give a nod to I Saw the TV Glow by Schoenbrun, with an image showing a television that literally glows in the dark and a caption that says: “If it gets too real, just turn it off.” The following post shows someone entering a movie theater in a beautiful snowy landscape and a legend that refers to alternative universes.

OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS:

“In Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miama, the infamous Camp Miasma horror franchise is rebooted once again. But when the director of the latest film becomes obsessed with the mysterious, reclusive actress who played the “final girl” in the original film, a new kind of horror emerges from the bottom of the lake.”

The supporting cast includes Amanda Fix (Orphan Black: Echoes), Arthur Conti (Beetlejuice Beetlejuice), Eva Victor (Sorry, Baby), Zach Cherry (Severance), Sarah Sherman (Saturday Night Live), Patrick Fischler (NCIS: Origins), Dylan Baker (Hunters), Jasmin Savoy Brown (Scream 7), Kevin McDonald (), Quintessa Swindell (Prime Target).

Schoenbrun previously said in a statement to the media about the project:

“I make movies that I wish had existed in my childhood, and Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma is my best attempt at turning it into a sleepover classic: a wacky but cozy midnight odyssey that draws unsuspecting viewers from the horror section of the local video store. “I couldn't be more excited to be going to sleepover camp this summer with the genius comedian Hannah Einbinder, the legendary Gillian Anderson and the daring folks at MUBI and Plan B, who, by greenlighting this film, have summoned a plague of blood, guts and other fluids to rain down on us all.”

This is Schoenbrun's fifth feature film, his previous project, I Saw the TV Glowwas nominated for six independent film Spirit Awards, including best film, screenplay and direction.

Mubi is financing the project and will handle distribution in select territories including the Americas, United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Benelux (Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg), Turkey, India, Australia, and New Zealand. The Match Factory will handle the rest of the markets.

Plan B produces, with Daniel Bekerman of Scythia Films serving as executive producer.
