The paths for those who delve into the internet listening/reading/researching music are mysterious. Escaping the easy road of the algorithm, getting lost between dark crossroads and going deep into the 'one thing leads to another' scheme, hidden treasures are discovered. Like this one.

In 1980 in the city of Bristol, who knows how, the city's bohemia brought together Bruce Smith and Gareth Sager (two former members of the seminal Pop Group) and a young Swedish aspiring singer aged just 16 called Neneh Mariann Karlsson, formerly the lead singer of the punk band The Cherries (still at 14!) and years later known throughout the world as Neneh Cherry.

From this somewhat unusual mix, three equally unusual albums were born, where post-punk with a more experimental bias is swallowed by and swallows free jazz/fusion, Afro percussions, funk/soul, various hallucinations and, every now and then, the voice of baby Cherry (laughs).

I chose to play the first of his albums, Godreleased in 1981 and still intriguing today, more than 4 decades later. I'm not going to waste my time trying to explain what happens here, because it would be a challenge for my summer-melted brain and disrespectful to anyone who has already done it (or tried to do it), so play the video below and draw your own conclusions.

Safe trip!

And below are the crazy people live in Tokyo, 1983.
