Robert Eggers signed TikToker for key scene in 'Nosferatu'

We are one month away from the theatrical release of the remake of the horror classic Nosferatufrom the screenwriter and director Robert Eggers (The Witch, The Lighthouse, The Northman), and the study Focus Featuresand the promotional material does not stop arriving.

With a luxury cast made up of Bill Skarsgård (IT, Barbarian), Lily-Rose Depp (The Idol, Silent Night), Nicholas Hoult (The Menu, Renfield), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kraven the Hunter, Nocturnal Animals), Emma Corrin (The Crown, My Policeman), Simon McBurney (The Conjuring 2, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation), Ralph Ineson (The Witch, The Northman), y Willem Dafoe (Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, The Lighthouse) as Professor Albin Eberthart Von Franz, vampire hunter, the studio and Eggers continue to prepare audiences for the release of this highly anticipated remake.

In a recent interview with Empire, Eggers revealed that one of the most difficult scenes to film was one where Hoult's character, real estate agent Thomas Hutter, arrives at a rural Transylvanian village on his way to the castle. Count Orlok in the Carpathian Alps.

Then, an old woman warns him not to go to Orlok's house. The person in question is a woman Eggers found through TikTok:

“She calls herself Bunica, which means 'grandmother,'” Eggers says, “and she has a TikTok account created for her by her niece, where she cooks traditional Romanian food. “That’s how we found her.”

“I had some skill with the camera because I had been on talk shows,” Eggers says. “And he has imagination: he is from southern Romania, but for the film he used a Transylvanian accent. I don't know, but she does.”

SYNOPSIS:

“In the new reinvention, Nosferatu is a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman (Lily-Rose Depp) in 19th century Germany and the ancient Transylvanian vampire (Bill Skarsgard) who stalks her, bringing with him unspeakable horror.”

Eggers wrote and directed the remake, as well as producing it alongside Jeff Robinov, John Graham, Chris Columbus and Eleanor Columbus.

Eggers earned critical and audience recognition with his debut feature, the independent horror film The Witch (2016), which is classified by many as their favorite of the modern times genre. In 2019 he presented his second feature film, the also acclaimed film The Lighthouse, while in 2022 he launched his thirdthe epic Viking revenge adventure, The Northman.

The original 1922 silent film and German horror classic was directed by German director Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau. His script unofficially adapts the story of Bram Stroker's book, Draculaproviding the audience with an image that became an icon for cinematographic culture. In 1979, Werner Herzog directed another version of the classic.

Nosferatu premieres December 25, 2024 in theaters from the United States via Focus Features, and January 1 in Mexico and the rest of Latin America via Universal Pictures.
