The serie reboot de The X-Files by the filmmaker has received the green light to make the pilot in Huluaccording to information from Deadline. The reboot is a project of Onyx Collective and 20th Television.

Coogler will write and direct the pilot episode.

In the series, two highly decorated but very different FBI agents (one played by Deadwyler) form an unlikely bond when they are assigned to a long-closed division dedicated to cases involving unexplained phenomena.

This will be Coogler's next project, after the great success of the acclaimed horror thriller, Sinnersone of the strongest contenders in the current awards season, which recently broke the record as the most nominated film in Oscar history with 16 nominations.

The series was originally announced in 2023, with Chris Carterthe creator and showrunner of the original series as executive producer alongside showrunner Yale, with Coogler, Sev Ohanian and Zinzi Coogler of Proximity Media.

During a 2023 podcast interview, Carter revealed that he had spoken with Coogler, who was “going to reassemble The X Files with a diverse cast,” adding, “He's got a lot of work ahead of him because we covered a lot of territory.”

Coogler is developing the reboot through his overall deal with Walt Disney Television.

Last April, prior to the theatrical release of Sinnersin an interview with Last Podcast on the Left, Coogler said about the reboot:

ā€œI've been excited about this for a long time and I'm looking forward to getting back to it,” confirming that this project is the “next” one on his calendar. “Some of those episodes, if we do our job right, will be really scary.”

The X-Filesoriginally produced by 20th Century Fox Television, aired on Fox for nine seasons from 1993 to 2001. It had two feature films, one in 1998 and another in 2008. In 2016 the network gave it a two-season revival. The science fiction series starred Gillian Anderson y David Duchovnyas FBI agents Dana Scully and Fox Mulder, respectively.

Coogler confessed to having held talks with Anderson, without revealing whether her return as Scully is in the plans.

The filmmaker has established himself as one of the most refreshing and original voices in the film industry, from independent film projects such as Fruitvale Stationeven the franchise Creedand highest profile projects such as Black Panther and its sequel. His most recent film, Sinnershas received applause and recognition from critics and moviegoers alike, and is strongly shaping up for the Oscar gala on March 15.

Deadwyler's next projects include the HBO comedy series, Roosterthe third season of Euphoriaand the thriller The Saviors.
