Sarah Drew reflected on his dismissal from the long-running medical drama Grey’s Anatomyduring his participation in the podcast Call It What It Is from iHeart Radio. The series said goodbye to Drew in 2018 at the end of season 14, after playing Dr. April Kepner for nine years. In the same instance, Jessica Capshaw, who played Dr. Arizona Robbins for ten years, was fired.
Drew shared with the podcast co-hosted by his former co-stars Grey’sCapshaw and Camilla Luddington, the following:
“They fired us unceremoniously, in a way that seemed cruel and unfair, and, because of that, the outpouring of love was so enormous that it was as if you were sitting there watching people [elogiándote].”
Since her firing, Drew has reprized her role as April Kepner twice, appearing in seasons 17 and 18.
On the podcast, he told Capshaw and Luddington that returning to the show as a guest star was “liberator”:
“I have no attachment [a la serie]. I didn't feel any anxiety [por volver porque] I don't need anything from anyone on that set anymore. They are no longer responsible for my support. They're not responsible for my success or my joy… I'm like, 'Hey! This is a fun place to come visit.'”
According to reports from 2018, both Drew and Capshaw were fired for creative reasons.
On the same podcast, Drew revealed that April was going to have a one-night stand in season 7 with Dr. Mark Sloan, played by Eric Dane:
“Before they made my character love Jesus and a virgin, there's a scene where Sloan and Reed [Nora Zehetner] They have sex, a random one night stand. It was originally supposed to be me. It was supposed to be April. April was supposed to have a random one night stand with Sloan and it was in the original production draft [del guion]and then they changed it. “I had nothing to do with it, but then they changed their mind.”
Drew came to Grey’s in the sixth season, after Seattle Grace Hospital merged with Mercy West Hospital. Her character, Dr. Kepner, is a trauma surgeon. Eight of his nine seasons were in a regular role.
