With filming underway, Scary Movie 6, the next sequel to the popular saga Scary Movieby the Wayans brothers, announces new signings, which include the returns of original members of the saga.
Scary Movie 6 has added to its cast Damon Wayans Jr. (New Girl), Kim Wayans (In Living Color) y Heidi Gardnerplus two veterans of the franchise: Cheri Oteri y Chris Elliottaccording to Deadline reports.
The character details of the new members of the franchise are being kept secret.
It is unclear whether Oteri and Elliott will reprise their previous roles or play new ones; Given the nature of these films, anything is possible.
Oteri previously appeared in the first Scary Movie (2000) as Gail Halstorm, a tabloid television reporter who parodied Courteney Cox's Gale Weathers character in Scream. Elliott is remembered for playing Hanson, the haunting caretaker of the haunted mansion in Scary Movie 2 (2001), although it also appeared in Scary Movie 4 (2006) as another character: Ezekiel, a town nutcase.
The sequel also features the previously confirmed returns of Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Regina Hall, Anna Faris, Lochlyn Monroe, Dave Sheridan y Jon Abrahams.
Other newcomers to the saga include Olivia Rose Keegan, Savannah Naasif, Cameron Scott Roberts, Sydney Park, Gregg Wayans, Ruby Snowbery Benny Zielke.
The saga, created and developed by the brothers Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans y Bring on Ivory Wayansdoes satire of popular horror films. The original film was released in 2000, a few years after the slashers were released. Scary Movie 6 mark the first reunion of the Wayans brothers on a franchise project in 18 years.
Keenen Ivory was the director of the first two installments, while Marlon and Shawn were screenwriters and stars of the first two installments. The Wayans Brothers did not participate in the next three installments.
Paramount Pictures and Miramax are the studios that support Scary Movie 6. The sequel comes as part of Paramount's first partnership with Miramax, the studio behind the film franchise.
Miramax will fully finance the production, and Paramount will handle distribution.
Miramax produces with Jonathan Glickman, Alexandra Lowey and Thom Zadra serving as executive producers.
The five installments that make up the saga so far have raised more than $896 million dollars worldwide.
Last September, while promoting the thriller Him, Marlon Wayans revealed the list of horror projects that will be parodied in Scary Movie 6, naming I Know What You Did Last Summer, Scream, Heretic, Longlegs, Get Out, Nopey Sinners.
Paramount Pictures plans to premiere of Scary Movie 6 in theaters on June 12, 2026.
