Neve Campbell is back as Sidney Prescott in Scream 7, the next installment of the popular slasher horror saga Scream.

Campbell will reprise her iconic role as “Scream Queen” Sidney after a pay dispute with Spyglass Media Group left her out of the sixth film, Scream VI (2023).

Now with all the differences behind, Campbell prepares to face Ghostface once again, and for the filming of Scream VIIwhich will kick off in December of this year, with Kevin Williamson as director. Williamson is the creator and screenwriter of the original 1996 installment, screenwriter of the sequels, Scream 2 y Scream 4and executive producer of the two most recent films, Scream 5 y Scream VI.

Williamson took over the reins as director following Christopher Landon's departure in December 2023. Scream 7 will mark his directorial debut for a film in the franchise Scream.

And while Scream 5 y Scream 6 focused primarily on a new group of teenagers as protagonists, and the support of Campbell (in the fifth) and that of Courteney Cox (in the fifth and sixth), The seventh film will return to the roots of Scream and will focus on Sidney Prescott.

This is what Campbell told Entertainment Tonight in a video interview available at the end of this article:

“We're going to follow Sidney. They introduced me to the concept and that's the reason I joined. “I love these movies, they are so much fun to be a part of, I am so grateful for them, I could never have imagined being a part of a movie that would last so many decades.”

“The fandom is crazy, they're amazing and so passionate about these movies. I'm excited to give them a new one!”

The actress added that the idea is in line with the return of Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode in the trilogy. Halloween that Blumhouse and Universal Pictures released in 2018, 2021 and 2022.

Campbell added that he has not received the final script, but expects to receive it this week.

Campbell is currently the only confirmed cast member. Rumor has it that Patrick Dempseywho played Mark Kincaid in Scream 3 (2000) was reportedly in negotiations to reprise her role. In the installments following the third film, it was revealed that Sidney married Mark and they have two daughters. Courteney Cox is another who would be in negotiations to return as Gale Weathers.

The script of Scream 7 written by Guy Busickbased on a story of James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. They both wrote the script for Scream 5 y Scream 6.

Vanderbilt produce Scream 7 alongside William Sherak and Paul Neinstein of Project X Entertainment, and executive producers Radio Silence (Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett and Chad Villella).

Plans for the seventh Scream changed dramatically when Spyglass fired Melissa Barrera for posts about the war between Israel and Hamas, which the company deemed anti-Semitic. A few days later it was announced that Jenna Ortega was also out due to work scheduling conflicts.

The most recent sequel, Scream VI o Scream 6was released in theaters in March 2023, grossing over $168 million worldwide, breaking the record for the highest domestic (US) box office for the slasher series with $108.1 million.

Paramount Pictures has not announced a release date for Scream VII.
