Ingredients

  • 250g wheat flour

  • 125g cold butter, cut into cubes

  • 1 egg

  • 1 pinch of salt

  • 2-3 tablespoons of ice water (optional)

Directions

  • In a large bowl, mix the wheat flour and salt.
  • Add the cold butter to the flour mixture. 
    Using your hands, crush the butter and flour until you have a mixture that resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Then add the egg to the mixture and stir until the dough starts to come together. 
    If the dough is too dry, add 1-2 tablespoons of ice water, one at a time, until the dough comes together.
  • Form the dough into a ball, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to firm up.
  • After the cooling period, remove the dough from the refrigerator and let it rest for a few minutes to soften slightly.
  • On a floured surface, roll out the dough with a rolling pin until it reaches a uniform thickness of about 0.5 cm.
  • Use the dough as directed in your pie recipe, filling it with the desired filling.
  • Bake as directed in your specific recipe.
