Ingredients
250g wheat flour
125g cold butter, cut into cubes
1 egg
1 pinch of salt
2-3 tablespoons of ice water (optional)
Directions
- In a large bowl, mix the wheat flour and salt.
- Add the cold butter to the flour mixture.
Using your hands, crush the butter and flour until you have a mixture that resembles coarse crumbs. - Then add the egg to the mixture and stir until the dough starts to come together.
If the dough is too dry, add 1-2 tablespoons of ice water, one at a time, until the dough comes together. - Form the dough into a ball, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to firm up.
- After the cooling period, remove the dough from the refrigerator and let it rest for a few minutes to soften slightly.
- On a floured surface, roll out the dough with a rolling pin until it reaches a uniform thickness of about 0.5 cm.
- Use the dough as directed in your pie recipe, filling it with the desired filling.
- Bake as directed in your specific recipe.
