The ghost horror thriller, Presenceof Steven Soderberghbegins to prepare the audience for its theatrical release scheduled for January 2025 by NEON.
The distribution company launched the first teaser trailer of this ghost story directed by Soderbergh from the script of David Kopp (Jurassic Park, Mission: Impossible), which is available at the end of this note.
The feature film, which had its premiere at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, stars Lucy Liu (A Man in Full, Elementary), Julia Fox (No Sudden Moves, Uncut Gems), Chris Sullivan (This Is Us), Eddy Madayy Callina Liang (Foundation, Bad Genius).
The plot revolves around a family of four who move into a haunted house after a real estate agent (Fox) convinces them it's the perfect property. Liang's character quickly realizes there's a presence there that may or may not be sinister…
OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS:
“A family moves into a suburban home and becomes convinced that they are not alone.”
This is one of those film projects where the less you know, the better, because you'll want to be surprised. Its main attraction is that it is a ghost story told from the ghost's point of view.told through long, uninterrupted takes, as the presence slides through the house.
This approach reminds us of the slasher In a Violent Nature from IFC Films, which also surprised audiences by following the villain's perspective throughout, and which also debuted at Sundance this year as did Presence.
The trailer is creative in its approach, using Soderbergh's solid filmography as a calling card, making reference to Sex, Lies and Videotape, Out of Sight, Erin Brockovich, Ocean’s Eleven, Traffic, Magic Mike, Contagion, with a camera movement that takes us to see the interior of a suburban house.
Julie M. Anderson and Ken Meyer produce Presence, with Soderbergh serving as director of photography and editor.
In 2025, another Soderbergh film will also be released, the spy project Black Bagwith a script written by Koepp (his third collaboration with Soderbergh after Like y Presence). This film stars Cate Blanchett, Michael Fassbender, Regé-Jean Page and Pierce Brosnan. It will be released in theaters on March 14.
