David Fincher is in full filming of The Adventures of Cliff Bootha sequel to the acclaimed Once Upon a Time in Hollywood of Quentin Tarantinocentered on the character played by Brad Pittwith house in Netflix.
And with production underway in the Highland Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, we have the latest news on the project.
In a new article about how Netflix and AMC Theaters are reaching an agreement over their previous conflicts to bring more of the platform's projects to the theater chain, Variety reports that Netflix is ”considering a stronger launch” to The Adventures of Cliff Booth y It plans a big screen premiere for the summer of 2026.
Although the companies have historically disagreed over limited theatrical releases of Netflix projects, AMC recently confirmed that it will screen both the return of KPop Demon Hunters during Halloween weekend, as the series finale Stranger Things in December, so apparently the disagreements between the network and the streamer have come to an end. Netflix has released other movies in theaters this year, such as A House of Dynamite y Frankensteinwithout the participation of AMC.
In order for its original films to be eligible for Oscar nominations by the Academy, Netflix usually briefly releases its originals under limited theatrical release, prior to their release on the platform. Due to the success of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood by Tarantino, it is to be hoped that Netflix will want to follow in his footsteps and establish the sequel as another Academy favorite.
Pitt will reprise his role as the charismatic stuntman Cliff Booth, which won him the Oscar for best supporting actor at the 2020 ceremony.
Tarantino wrote the script for the sequel, but is not returning to direct it; Fincher takes the lead as director of this new installment. Plot details are still being kept under wraps.
What is a fact is that it will focus on Cliff Booth:
“The plot is set in a time after Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. It is unclear how much of the material, if any, is based on Tarantino's 2021 novel of the same name, which revealed more about Cliff's history, including the death of his wife.
The story's origins are based on a script written by Tarantino, who ultimately decided he would not direct it. Pitt liked the script so much that, with Tarantino's permission, he took it to Fincher, who has an exclusive agreement with Netflix.
The sequel surprised everyone when it was announced last April. First, because no one thought about once upon a time in hollywood would have a sequel or that the story had more to offer, that it would not be directed by Tarantino, that it would end up being a streaming release not from a studio –because Tarantino is not a fan of streamers– and that would put Fincher behind the lens.
Additionally, it marks a new collaboration between Fincher and Pitt. The actor has placed himself under the orders of Fincher in Se7en, Fight Cluby The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
The film's cast includes Elizabeth Debicki (The Crown), Scott Caan (Hawaii Five-0), Yama is my Malays II (Candyman), Carla Gugino (The Haunting of Hill House), Dead McCallany (Mindhunter), JB Tadena (The Cleaning Lady) y Corey Fogelmanis (My Life with Walter Boys). None of them appeared in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
Erik Messerschmidt (The Killer, Mank) will be the director of photography. Tarantino will be one of the producers.
He The film's budget will be $200 million.revealed by Tarantino himself.

During a recent appearance on the Church of Tarantino podcast, the filmmaker who once expressed distaste for making movies for streaming appears to have shed that belief, and no longer cares if Netflix releases The Adventures of Cliff Booth in theaters or not, nor whether the budget is big, well, if Netflix doesn't care, neither does he. As far as the filmmaker is concerned, the ticket is already purchased by having a subscription to the platform:
“Well, they may release it in theaters, but it's not their business model. I don't blame the company for not following what is not its business model. It is what it is. “I wouldn't be surprised if they released it for two weeks, at least with some limitation.”
“As for the big cities, there will probably be screenings. They'll probably want it to be successful with the Oscars. So there will be screenings all over the city and all that.”
“The pressure I've lived under my entire career just doesn't exist. So that's great. That burden is tyranny unless you win [en taquilla]. When you win, you have incredible energy… when you don't beat them [en taquilla]it sucks. But the fact that that pressure simply evaporates simply does not exist: your tickets are already purchased. You purchased your subscription [a Netflix]“.
