The Balance Club / Culture Festival takes place from November 1 to 3 in Leipzig. For the sixth time, the interdisciplinary club culture festival combines music, discourse and art in various locations in the city. With us you can win two festival tickets.

The progressive cultural approach has been in the foreground at the Balance Festival since the start of the festival. The older ones remember: the first edition was in 2018. And it is precisely this claim. At that time, the festival started as a platform for progressive club culture and transformative politics to strengthen marginalized, queer and feminist voices in club culture – especially in East Germany.

This year's motto could not be more fitting about current questions, not only in the club culture cosmos: “Tensions”, ie tensions, is the title and the topic of the festival. Because in the festival planning, the team was “guided by a certain uncertainty – from political tensions within activist groups to the worldwide upswing in populism and its supporters,” they write.

Germany, and especially Saxons, faces a growing threat from the right. At a time when fascist groups shamelessly take public spaces, marginalized people want to exclude and to silence those who defend themselves, the festival makers want to: inside, as a political tool and as a counter-movement against fascism, racism, anti-Semitism and queer hostility insert.

Club culture has often arisen from tensions and has always been a refuge, a place where we can meet another reality, apart from everyday dystopies. – Balance Club / Culture Festival

Panels and workshops in the Garage Ost

As always, the discourse program is free of charge. There are so many interesting talks and workshops that are offered over three days in the Garage East, but one stands out: Bridging Tensions: How can club culture remain resistant and solidarity despite tensions? On this afternoon (Saturday, November 2, 4 to 6 p.m.), difficulties, strategies and hopes for a collective counterculture with four guests are discussed: inside. Must-Hear.

Concert evening in the UT Connewitz

On Friday, 1/11. “The variety of contemporary club culture is celebrated with a live music and performance night in UT Connewitz,” write the makers: inside.
