'The Housemaid 2' underway with the return of Sydney Sweeney; It will be titled 'The Housemaid's Secret'

With commercial success in its favor, Lionsgate and green light for a thriller sequel The Housemaidthe film adaptation of the bestseller of the same name by Freida McFadden, which in our region is titled The employee.

The film, now in theaters, stars Amanda Seyfried, Sydney Sweeney, Brandon Sklenar, y Michele Morrone. To date, it has accumulated a global box office of more than $133 million dollars.

For the newly announced sequel the returns of Sweeney, Morrone are expectedthe director Paul Feig and the screenwriter Rebecca Sonnenshineaccording to Deadline reports.

The sequel will adapt the second novel in McFadden's literary trilogy, titled The Housemaid’s Secret. The production of its initial clapboard is expected this very 2026.

Sweeney would not only reprise her leading role, but also her role as executive producer, which she played alongside Seyfried in the first installment.

Producers will include Feig and Laura Fischer of Feigco, Todd Lieberman of Hidden Pictures, Cary Elter, and Alex Young. McFadden will be another executive producer.

In the first installment, Sweeney plays Millie, a young woman who works as a housekeeper for the wealthy Winchester family. In an attempt to recover after a brief period in prison, Millie works diligently in the family home and strengthens her relationship with her marriage. As he becomes acquainted with the Winchesters, he soon discovers what lies behind the seemingly perfect family's façade and finds himself unraveling the dark secrets behind the family's decline.

Published in 2023, The Housemaid’s Secret follow Millie in a new job with new promisesalthough he soon realizes that he finds himself in another dangerous home where nothing is as it seems.

The books of The Housemaid have sold more than 12 million copies among all titles, of which The Housemaid’s Secret It has sold four million. Translated into 40 languages, the book has been a New York Times bestseller for 75 weeks and counting. It also broke the record of 500 million pages read on Kindle and is the second most read title on Kindle's 10th anniversary, only behind the series Harry Potter.
