Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films are developing a live-action film Masters of the Universefor which they have just announced the signing of Camila Mendes (Riverdale).
Mendes will be in charge of playing Teela. In addition to the previously announced, Nicholas Galitzine (The Idea of You) as He-Man (via Deadline).

“Teela is a warrior who, as Captain of the Royal Guard of Eternia, is responsible for protecting the royal family, especially Prince Adam aka He-Man.”
Mendes landed her breakout role as Veronica on The CW's teen series, Riverdalewhich aired for seven seasons from 2017 to 2023. The actress has also been part of feature films such as Palm Springs Hulu, Do Revenge from Netflix, and has collaborated with Amazon MGM Studios on Upgraded y MusicIn recent weeks it was announced that he is in negotiations to take on one of the leading roles in the reboot I Know What You Did Last Summer.
Travis Knight (Bumblebee) will direct the script written by Chris ButlerThere was previously a script draft written by David Callaham, Aaron Nee, and Adam Nee.
Deadline shared:
“The film follows ten-year-old Prince Adam, who has crash-landed on Earth in a spaceship and is separated from his magical Power Sword, his only link to his home on Eternia. After tracking it down nearly two decades later, Prince Adam is transported back through space to defend his home planet against the evil forces of Skeletor.
“But to defeat a villain so powerful, Prince Adam must first uncover the mysteries of his past and become He-Man: the most powerful man in the Universe.”
The film is based on the popular and well-known toy franchise from Mattel. In the 1980s it had an animated series, while in 1987 it was adapted for the first time to the big screen in live action, starring Dolph Lundgren.
Masters of the Universe was previously in development at Sony Pictures and Netflix before ending up at Amazon MGM Studios. It is produced by Escape Artists and Mattel Films.
They are Theatrical release is set for June 5, 2026.
