The slasher 'River' unites the “Scream Queens” Jane Levy and Jessica Rothe in leading roles

Two “Scream Queens” of contemporary horror cinema come together in the recently announced survival slasher project River the shudder.

Jane Levy (Evil Dead) y Jessica Rothe (Happy Death Day) star in the director's film Joshua Giulianomarking his feature film directorial debut, Variety reported.

Giuliano's short films have won numerous awards at various festivals around the world, including the Fantasia Film Festival, Fantastic Fest, and Frightfest.

In addition to Levy and Rothe, the main cast includes DiLiegro data (Prey) y Max Mattern (Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy).

According to a press release, the premise of River is the following:

“Three estranged brothers reunite in their hometown after the death of their father and prepare to spread his ashes in their favorite place on the banks of a remote river. But when their boat breaks down, the trip turns into a nightmare. Stranded miles from any help and without cell coverage, they soon realize that a faceless killer, emerging from the forest, is stalking them. To survive the night, the brothers must put aside their old grudges and fight together against a terror ruthless, almost mythical.”

The film from the Shudder Original Production label, is in post-production. Its distribution in the national market (USA, Canada) will be carried out by Independent Film Company (IFC).

The slasher is expected releases in theaters in 2026 via IFCfollowed by its release on Shudder.

Distribution for the international market will be defined at the American Film Market (AMF).

Giuliano stated in a press release:

The producers of the feature film are Steven Schneider (Insidious) de Spooky Pictures, Nick Antosca y Alex Hedlund (Chucky) of Eat the Cat, and executive producers include Jeffrey Tinnell and Robert Tinnell (The Hunted) de Allegheny Image Factory, y Matt Brodlie y Jonathan Kier de Upgrade.
