“¡Mortaaal Kombat”!
New Line Cinema y Warner Bros. revealed the first full trailer of the anticipated sequel Mortal Kombat IIthe most recent installment of the live-action franchise Mortal Kombatwhich adapts the popular video game saga.
The sequel follows up on the events of the first installment, the 2021 reboot, and promises to get closer to the story of the original game and introduce multiple new characters such as Jade (Tati Gabrielle), Noob Saibot (Joe Taslim) and fan favorite Johnny Cage (Karl Urban).
The Red Band Trailer version is packed with martial arts violence and showcases the fantasy setting of the sequel, which centers on a deadly cross-dimensional tournament, where heroes from Earthrealm and the dark Outworld must fight for their very existence. Like the games that inspired it, the film appears to be filled with violence and violence, with each fight often ending in gruesome deaths, meaning any character, both new and old, could end up on the guillotine.
The plot picks up after the events of the first film, where the god of thunder and protector of Earthrealm, Raiden (Tadanobu Asano), has gathered a group of warriors, including Special Forces agents Jax Briggs (Mehcad Brooks) and Sonya Blade (Jessica McNamee), the sociopathic mercenary Kano (Josh Lawson) and MMA fighter turned mystic Cole Young (Lewis Tan).
Joining the good guys is Johnny Cage and, as shown in a big reveal in the teaser, otherworldly princess Kitana (Adeline Rudolph), as well as another fan favorite, Scorpion (Hiroyuki Sanada), whose phrase in the game, “Come here!”punctuates the trailer's biggest fight scene.

Simon McQuoid returns as director for the sequel, with a script by Jeremy Slater (Moon Knight).

The 2021 film focused its plot on Earth's greatest champions called to fight the enemies of Outworld in a tournament for the fate of the planet.
The film was released simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max under the strategy launched at that time by Warner Bros. It accumulated $83.6 million in the global box office, and generated almost 4 million views on the streamer during its opening weekend, becoming the most viewed WB original film on the streamer at the time.
Mortal Kombat II hits theaters and IMAX on May 7, 2026.
