Last Friday, November 7, Apple TV premiered the first two episodes of its new original series, the anticipated To many of Vince Gilliganthe creator of Breaking Bad y Better Call Saulstarring Rhea Seehorn of Better Call Saul.
The drama and science fiction series is described as a series that “breaks with the genre, in which the most miserable person on Earth must save the world from happiness”.
Seehorn stars in the sci-fi drama as Carolin a new collaboration with Gilligan, after having starred Better Call Saul. Gilligan claims to have written the role of Carol exclusively for Seehorn.
In case you haven't seen the beginning of this series, we tell you that in the credits of To many you will find the following phrase:
“This series was made by humans”.
It is an important reminder, as Artificial Intelligence and technologies derived from it, continue to gain power within the Hollywood industry – and basically every other arena. Gilligan has been openly skeptical about artificial intelligence.
Laughing, Gilligan told Variety the following:
“I hate AI. AI is the most expensive and energy-consuming plagiarism machine in the world. I think it's very likely that this is all a hoax. Basically, This is a group of centimillionaires whose greatest goal in life is to become the world's first trillionaires. I think they are selling smoke“.
“My toaster doesn't suddenly turn into Thomas Keller just because it heats up a delicious pizza for me”—but his science fiction mind frets about the imminent threat of “the singularity,” that is, when AI develops “a true consciousness that has a soul of its own and, therefore, an identity of its own.”
“If they ever do it, then the slavery debate will be back in the spotlight. These billionaires will want to profit from this sentient being. Will it then be a slave? In that case, it will be a truly sentient being, and these Silicon Valley morons will monetize it against its will, right?”
Seehorn, for his part, shared his opinion on the recent controversy of the first AI-generated actress, Tilly Norwood, whom talent agencies were supposedly looking to recruit:
“I have no problem going on record that I don't think any agency should represent that AI actress. Shame on you!”.
Meanwhile, video generation programs like OpenAI's Sora demonstrate the inevitability of AI-generated content becoming integrated into popular culture. The question Gilligan poses to the audience is this:
“Do they want to feed only on garbage? Does a junk diet have enough calories to survive? The answer is yes, probably. “They could eat it”.
[El contenido generado por IA es] “like a cow chewing its cud: an endless loop of meaninglessness“.
Sure, you can ask an AI to paint you a Picasso, but:
“Even though a computer might make you believe there are impasto brushstrokes, the reason the painting conveys emotion is because of the human experience that went into putting that art on the canvas,” says Gilligan. “That matters to me. I think it matters to most people.”

In To manySeehorn plays Carol, a best-selling author of historical romance novels who is on a book tour in Albuquerque, New Mexico, when something mysterious affects the population: a virus that leaves everyone happy and optimistic 24 hours a day of the day, 7 days a week.
Upon discovering that she is immune, Carol embarks on a journey in search of answers, although Gilligan previously announced that “There will be complications arising from that”.
In addition to Seehorn, the cast includes Karolina Wydra (Sneaky Pete), Carlos-Manuel Vesga (Wherever you want), Miriam Shor (American Fiction), Samba Schutte (Our Flag Means Death) y Jennifer Bravo.
Gilligan said that this character is very different from the one Seehorn played in Better Call Saulsaying that, “She plays someone who is trying really hard to be good. She's a bit of a damaged hero, but a hero nonetheless..”
And for fans of Breaking Bad y Better Call SaulGilligan revealed that there will be some easter eggs:
“There might be a couple if you're paying attention. 'Breaking Bad' and 'Better Call Saul' fans, if they pay attention, might come across an Easter egg or two.”
This is Gilligan's first series since the conclusion of Better Call Saul in 2022. It will also be another of the original science fiction proposals of Apple TV+, which this year already launched new seasons of Severance, Foundatione Invasion.
Apple TV+ ordered two seasons To many in 2022.
The producers are Jenn Carroll, and Chris Smirnoff, with executive producers Gilligan, Jeff Frost, Gordon Smith, Alison Tatlock, and Diane Mercer, and Allyce Ozarski. Sony Pictures Television to produce.
The first season consists of 9 episodes, which will be released weekly, until the season finale on December 26.
