Netflix surprised fans of its drama and romance series, Virgin Riverannouncing that they have renewed for a seventh seasona couple of months before the premiere of the sixth season on the streamer.
- Season 6 launches on the platform on December 19, 2024.
Like the first, second, third and sixth seasons, the seventh season will consist of 10 episodes.
VIRGIN RIVER BREAK DURATION RECORDS
With early renewal, Virgin River becomes Netflix's longest-running current original scripted series, as well as the longest-running English-language drama series in the streaming service's history (via Deadline).
Its journey of seven seasons to date equals that of the comedy Grace and Frankie and dramatic comedy Orange Is The New Blackwhich was designated as a comedy for its first two seasons before being designated as a drama.
Virgin River has surpassed the length of other Netflix originals like House of Cards y The Crownwhich lasted six seasons each, with only the spanish teen drama Elite ahead in number of seasons (8), but not episodes (64 compared to 74 in Virgin River over 7 seasons).
The series adapts the novels by Robyn Carr, with a sustainable premise that revolves around a group of characters living in a small town.
The story introduces us to nurse Melinda (Mel) Monroe (Breckenridge) moving to the remote California town of Virgin River in search of a new beginning. There, she found community and love in the local bar owner, Jack Sheridan (Henderson). Season 6 takes place against the backdrop of Mel and Jack's romantic spring wedding, chronicling the preparations along with new twists, new drama, and more love triangles.
The cast is led by Alexandra Breckenridge y Martin Hendersonand the veterans Tim Matheson y Annette O’Toole.
The cost of the series is another element that has kept it alive. It is filmed in Canada, while the action is limited to places such as a health clinic, a bar, and some houses.

Patrick Sean Smith, who took the reins of the series as showrunner after the departure of creator Sue Tenney, returns as showrunner and executive producer for the seventh season.
Other returning executive producers include Tenney, Amy Palmer Robertson, Roma Roth, Christopher E. Perry, Carr, Erin Cardillo, and Richard Keith. Jennifer Monroe joins as executive producer.
