WGA Awards 2026: 'One Battle After Another' and 'Sinners' are chosen by the Writers Guild

The delivery of the WGA Awards 2026of the Writers Guild (WGA; Writers Guild of America), just finished in New York City.

The guild recognizes the highlights of 2025 in cinema with categories divided into best original and adapted script, and in the television category in all eligible formats (series, miniseries, etc.).

This is the last awards gala, before concluding the awards season with the presentation of the Oscar Award next Sunday, March 15.

The Writers Guild Awards confirmed two films in particular that have been setting the trend as Oscar favorites. We talk about One Battle After Anotherthe one chosen by the guild in the adapted screenplay category – received by Paul Thomas Anderson – ahead of the other nominees, Bugonia, Frankenstein, Hamnet y Train Dreams; y Sinners by Ryan Coogler, in the original screenplay category, ahead of Black Bag, If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, Marty Supreme y Weapons.

After los plot twists events that occurred at the BAFTA and the Actor Awards (formerly the SAG Award), the race for the Oscar was evened out, and now we have One Battle After Another y Sinners in a very close contest in the big categories of the Academy Award, representing a duel of titans.

• It should be noted that PTA production had a clear advantage over its rivals, until a couple of weeks ago. Both films are from the Warner Bros. label.

Back at the Writers Guild, the television industry was dominated by The Pittwhich won awards for best drama series writing, new series, and drama episode. The comedy category highlighted The Studio.
