'Wicked: For Good' celebrates its theatrical release with official poster

This weekend, Universal Pictures is releasing the long-awaited sequel in theaters around the world. Wicked: For Goodwhich we told you about, is doing extremely well in ticket sales.

To celebrate its arrival on the big screen, the studio shared a new official poster, focused on the returns of Cynthia Erivo y Ariana Grande as Elphaba and Glinda, respectively, with a setting behind them that will be familiar to all Wizard of Oz fans: the yellow bricks.

The cast also includes the returns of Jonathan Bailey, Jeff Goldblum, Michelle Yeoh, Ethan Slater, Peter Dinklagey Marissa Bode.

Part 1 tells the story of how a green-skinned young woman is framed by the Wizard of Oz and becomes the Wicked Witch of the West.

The plot of the second part, covers a period years after Elphaba and Glinda's decision to separate. Elphaba, now an enemy of the state of Oz, has set out on a journey through the skies and forests of the west, while Glinda has become a public figure controlled by the Wizard (Goldblum) and Madame Morrible (Yeoh).

The sequel titled in our region as Wicked: Foreverfrom the director Jobs Menis the second part of the film adaptation of the fantasy musical Wickedwhose first part became a total box office and critical hit in 2024.

The second part is expected to repeat the success on both fronts.

Both films are directed by Chu and written by Winnie Holzman (My So-Called Life) y Dana Fox (Cruella, New Girl). They adapt the 1995 novel, Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West (Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West) by Gregory Maguire, which tells the origin story of the Wicked Witch of the West and her former friendship with Glinda, the Good Witch.

The musical adaptation of Wicked by Stephen Schwartz debuted on Broadway in 2003, starring Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel.

Chu shot both films simultaneously in the United Kingdom.

Stephen Schwartz was in charge of the soundtrack for both films. The sequel will include two original songsand both Erivo and Grande, They will have their own solo musical number.

Marc Platt and David Stone are producers, with Jared LeBoff, David Nicksay, and Stephen Schwartz serving as executive producers.
