Woody Harrelson on returning to 'True Detective': “Never. No chance”

The first season of the anthology True Detective of HBOstarring Matthew McConaughey y Woody Harrelsonis considered one of the best seasons of any series.

And although four more seasons of the crime drama have already been made, as this is an anthology format where different crimes to be solved in different locations are independently addressed, none of them have featured the return of one or both actors. Even today, many continue to wait for

The series created by Nic Pizzolatto, released on HBO in January 2014, focuses its plot – built on a non-linear narrative – on Louisiana State Police homicide detectives, Rustin “Rust” Cohle (McConaughey) and Martin “Marty” Hart (Harrelson), in charge of the investigation into the murder of Dora Lange in 1995. Seventeen years later, they must reopen the investigation, in an apparent link with others missing persons cases and unsolved murders.

Harrelson has a firm stance on a possible return.

During his appearance on 3rd Hour of Today on Halloween, Harrelson flatly ruled out the idea of ​​reprising his role, sharing his candid opinion.

After host Dylan Dreyer told him that McConaughey has shown interest, “If Woody and I think she's good enough. I wouldn't even doubt it,” were McConaughey's words to Dreyer, which in turn were shared with Harrelson, the actor commented:

“Matthew is very funny, but honestly, never. No chance.”.

Harrelson explained that he did not want to reprise the role:

“Because it turned out great. I love how it turned out. If anything, doing another season, I think, would tarnish it.”.

The first season of True Detective It won five Emmy Awards, plus nominations for McConaughey and Harrelson for their roles in it. He explored themes such as Christianity, horror, occultism, and masculinity.

After a great season of very high quality, the second and third seasons failed to replicate the achievements. It wasn't until the fourth season, True Detective: Night Countrydirected by Mexican filmmaker Issa López, and Jodie Foster in the lead role, the anthology raised its head. Its success gave way to the development of a fifth season, which will once again be carried out by López.

If you are interested in a new collaboration between Harrelson and McConaughey, the actors will collaborate on a comedy series for which there are no further details. Meanwhile, they will appear as themselves in the upcoming series, Brother From Another Motheron Apple TV, which follows the actors as they attempt to live together on McConaughey's Texas ranch.
