Lionsgate has a trilogy inspired by the horror franchise underway The Strangerswhich is carried out by the director Renny Harlin (Cliffhanger, Deep Blue Sea, Die Hard 2).

Last May, the first of them was released in cinemas around the world, The Strangers: Chapter 1, which didn't do, shall we say, particularly well with critics or fans on the Internet. This led part of the audience to wonder about the future of the aforementioned trilogy. If this was in danger of being canceled, or would it continue.

The plot twist for those who are not aware, is that Harlin filmed the three films subsequently, so the next two are already filmed and preparing to be released.

And it will be this year when it will be released in theaters, The Strangers: Chapter 2hence Lionsgate has already shared the first look at the protagonist Madelaine Petsch (Riverdale, Jane) reprising her role as Maya from the previous film. Maya was stalked and attacked by the three masked strangers (Dollface, Pin-Up Girl and Man in the Mask), while she was in a secluded Airbnb in the woods of Oregon, with her boyfriend, Ryan (Froy Gutierrez).

At the end of April, Courtney Solomon, producer of the saga, announced during an appearance at WonderCon that The Strangers: Chapter 2 will be released in theaters in fall 2024. That is why it is to be expected that Lionsgate will begin to prepare the audience for said release.

A look at Petsch in the sequel can be found below:

The trilogy was launched in September 2022. It is based on the original 2008 cult film by Bryan Bertino, of which Harlin has confessed to being a fan.

Previously, and prior to the premiere of Chapter 1Harlin assured the audience that the trilogy will carve its own path, with Chapter 1 setting a course and the aftermath, Chapter 2 y Chapter 3expanding the story in new and unexpected ways.

Harlin added about the projects:

“Sin trying to trivialize it or explain it too much, the second and third films are an exploration of where it came from [todo]. More than anything, they are an exploration of what could happen to a person, in this case, a young woman, who is the victim of such senseless violence. What effect does that have on you mentally and physically, and what is your journey after that? It's an exploration of that more than anything. And I think we'll answer a lot of the questions that fans of the original have and then go much further. At the end of the third film, there really are more questions than answers.

Despite the bad review, Chapter 1 became the highest-grossing release of a horror film so far in 2024, in the US box office, with $11.8 million in its opening weekend. , and with its theatrical run completed, its cumulative global total was $37.6 million.

Its budget was $8.5 million, so it was profitable for the studio.
