The new version of The Crow from the director Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Hunstman, Ghost in the Shell) y Lionsgatewill hit theaters next August, which is why the studio continues to prepare the audience by sharing news.

The latest is the official classification of the film. According to information from the Motion Picture Association (MPA), the organization in charge of giving the classifications to all the projects, has decided to give the film the R rating at the reboot of The Crow by:

“Strong bloody violence, gore, language, sexuality/nudity and drug use.”

The reboot of The Raven It is described as a modern reimagining of James O'Barr's graphic novel. It stars Bill Skarsgård (saga IT, Barbarian) as Eric Draven, the singer and songwriter, FKA Twigs (Honeyboy) as Shelly Webster, Draven's fiancée, and Danny Huston (Succession) in an antagonistic role.

The plot centers on soulmates Eric (Skarsgård) and Shelly (FKA twigs), who are brutally murdered when the demons of Shelly's dark past catch up to them. Given the chance to save his true love by sacrificing himself, Eric sets out to exact ruthless revenge on her killers, traversing the worlds of the living and the dead to right the wrongs.

The rest of the cast is made up of Laura Birn (Foundation), Sami Bouajila (A Son), y Jordan Bolger (The Woman King).

In recent months, Skarsgård revealed in a press release the following about taking on the role of The Crow:

“I was a huge fan of the original film as a kid and it was a huge honor to take on the role of Eric Draven. He’s a character I know many revere and have a strong connection to. I felt a responsibility to Eric’s story and I tried hard to stay true to the spirit of the source material.”

James O'Barr's material was previously adapted for the big screen in the 1994 film starring Brandon Lee, which would mark his final role, after he died after being accidentally shot while filming a scene for the movie.

  • The Crow (1994) by Alex Proyas, is considered a cult classic, often remembered for its dark and brooding aesthetic, and alternative rock soundtrack. The film spawned three sequels and a television series.

Sanders sees the reboot as a sort of tribute to Lee's memory:

“Brandon was an original voice and I think he will always be synonymous with The Crow and I hope he's proud of what we've done and how we've reclaimed the story. His soul is very much alive in this film. There's a real fragility and beauty to his take on the Crow, and I think Bill feels like a successor to that.”

Lionsgate to release reboot of The Raven in theaters the August 23, 2024.
