HBO will take us back to the world of Pennywise, with IT: Welcome to Derrya prequel series to the two films ITwith the return of the director of both installments, Andy Muschiettiand that of Bill Skarsgård as the antagonist.

The series that will expand the world of the clown created by Stephen Kingto the small screen, is an HBO Original production, with Andy and his sister Bárbara Muschietti as executive producers alongside Jason Fuchs y Brad Caleb Kane as coshowrunners and executive producers. Skarsgård is another executive producer.

Fuchs co-produced IT: Chapter Two; Andy directed both the 2017 and 2019 adaptations, while Barbara produced them. The Muschietti brothers, together with Fuchs, developed the story of the series, with Fuchs as the screenwriter. Andy Muschietti directs four of the nine episodes of the first season.

THE STORY WILL BEGIN IN 1962, INSPIRED BY THE INTERLUDES OF MIKE HANLON

IT: Welcome to Derry Its history will begin in 1962in the time prior to the events of IT: Chapter One (2017). The series will include the origin story of Pennywise the Clownas well as the dawn of the 27 year curse that stalks the small town of Maine.

In an interview with EW, Andy and Bárbara Muschietti commented that their inspiration for the prequel series are the interludes written by Mike Hanlon in King's novel.

It is important to remember that the Muschiettis changed the timeline of the films IT regarding the setting of King's novel, so the series IT: Welcome to Derrycontinue along the same line. Its plot takes place in 1962 when the Black Spot caught fire, while in the book this event took place in the 1930s..

This takes us 27 years before the events of the first film. IT (2017).

“This is a book we love and felt there was still a lot of story to cover. “It is so rich in characters and events that we thought we would do the book and the fans justice by returning to this world.”

They continue:

“Specifically, we tell the stories of the interludes, written by Mike Hanlon based on his research that includes interviews he conducts with the city's seniors.. In Welcome to Derry, we touch on the usual themes discussed in the film: friendship, loss, the power of unified faith, but This story also focuses on the use of fear as a weapon, which is one of the things that is also relevant to our times..”

We will explore the origins of Pennywise,” they say, “but as in the book, we will do it with a good dose of crypticism.”

The series cast includes Skarsgard (IT), Taylour Paige (Zola), Jovan Adepo (Watchmen), Chris Chalk (Perry Mason), James Remar (Oppenheimer), as protagonists, with Madeleine Stowe (Revenge), y Stephen Rider (Daredevil) in a recurring guest role and a regular role, respectively.
