Great news for the saga fandom Star Wars.

This morning, it was announced that Lucasfilm closed an agreement with Simon Kinberg for the development of a new trilogy of films Star Wars (via Deadline).

Kinberg will be in charge of writing the script for the trilogy, and producing them together with Kathleen Kennedy, the president of Lucasfilm.

The new trilogy will consist of Episodes 10 to 12 The Skywalker Saga. George Lucas' original trilogy released its first film in 1977.

Some sources comment that the new trilogy will continue Lucas' story, while there are those who believe that it will be the beginning of a new saga, in the style of ongoing projects by James Mangold, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Taika Waititi and Donald Glover.

Kinberg has experience in the universe Star Warsas co-creator of the animated series Star Wars Rebels (2014-2018), and as a consultant for Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens (2015).

His screenwriting credits include Mr. and Mrs. Smith (2005), installments of the saga X-Men like X-Men: The Last Stand, X-Men: Days of Future Past, X-Men: Apocalypse, X-Men: Dark Phoenixand the series Invasion y Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

As a producer his credits include The Martian (2015), the saga X-Menthe saga Deadpool, Logan (2017), the Agatha Christie trilogy by Kenneth Branagh and 20th Century Studios (Murder on the Orient Express, Death on the Nile, A Haunting in Venice). As we can see, Kinberg has quite a bit of experience being part of franchise projects.

Among his next projects as a producer are the remake The Running Man by Edgar Wright, and the new installment of Star Trek de Paramount Pictures.
