“Gothic romance was born in part from the fascination with ruins. “Sometimes they are more beautiful than the entire building because it is the clash between creation and destruction.”

THE DETAILS OF THE PLOT:

The story will largely revolve around the classic tale from Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley's 1818 novel, adapted countless times over the decades.

“Set in Eastern Europe in the 19th century, the story of Dr. Pretorious, who needs to locate Frankenstein's monster, believed to have died in a fire forty years earlier, in order to continue Dr. Frankenstein's experiments. ”

The roles in charge of each leading member:

  • Isaac will play the Doctor.
  • Elordi will play the Monster.
  • Goth will play The Bride.
  • Waltz will play a male role of European origin.

Del Toro previously shared about this project:

“It's a movie I've wanted to make for 50 years since I saw the first Frankenstein. I had an epiphany, and it's basically a movie. That required a lot of growth and a lot of tools that I couldn't have done 10 years ago. “Now I’m brave enough or crazy enough or something, and let’s address it.”

The film marks a new collaboration between del Toro and the renowned composer Alexandre Desplat (The Shape of Water, Pinocchio) who is taking charge of the soundtrack.

Del Toro produces with Gary Ungar (The Strain, Pinocchio, Cabinet of Curiosities).

The Gothic literary work Frankenstein or the modern Prometheus by Shelley, was published in January 1818, whose story addresses topics such as “scientific morality, the creation and destruction of life and the daring of humanity in its relationship with God. Hence, the subtitle of the work: the protagonist tries to rival God in power, like a kind of modern Prometheus who snatches the sacred fire of life from divinity. Although Frankenstein is steeped in elements of the Gothic novel and the Romantic movement, there are those who argue that this should be considered the first true science fiction story.” (via Wikipedia).
