We are getting closer to the return of The Last of Us.

The second season will premiere in April on HBO y Maxwith the specific day to be announced later.

The news was revealed by Neil Druckmannco-creator, writer and executive producer of the series, during Sony's press conference at this week's CES.

The new season of the acclaimed series based on Naughty Dog's popular horror video game adapts the events of the video game The Last of Us Part II. Although, as the showrunner explained at some point Craig Mazinthe material is so extensive, that It will take them more than a single season to adapt the story of the sequel video game.

Mazin and Druckmann are the co-creators, executive producers, showrunners and directors of The Last of Us.

The second season will consist of seven episodestwo less compared to season one. One of the episodes will be full-length. There are plans for a potential third season to be significantly longer, “And, in fact, the story could require a fourth season”he said in an interview with Deadline.

The second season features the returns of the protagonists, Pedro Pascal like Joel, and Bella Ramsey like Ellie, plus Gabriel Luna like Tommy, and Rutina Wesley like Maria.

New additions to the cast include Kaitlyn Dever (Booksmart) playing Abby, Isabela Merced (Alien: Romulus) like Dina, Young Teeth (Beef) as Jesse, Tati Gabrielle (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) like Nora, Spencer Lord (Riverdale) as Owen, Ariella Barer (How to Blow Up a Pipeline) like Honey, Danny Ramirez (Top Gun: Maverick) like Manny, the return of Jeffrey Wright playing another role, that of Isaac, the character to whom Wright lent his voice in the video game The Last of Us Part IIy Catherine O’Hara (Home Alone, Schitt’s Creek, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice) in a guest star role.

The story continues with apocalypse survivors Joel (Pascal), Ellie (Ramsey), and Joel's brother Tommy (Luna), and will introduce several new cast members, including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, who is the focus of the new trailer which was also released this week.

The 30-second teaser (available below) contains some of the previously released images from the first trailer that was released in 2023.

“After five years of peace following the events of the first season, Joel and Ellie's collective past catches up with them, leading them into conflict with each other and a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind.”

The Last of Us is a co-production with Sony Pictures Television, Carolyn Strauss, Jacqueline Lesko, Cecil O'Connor, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, and Evan Wells.
