With the rich taste of roasted or sautéed garlic blended into buttery, fluffy potatoes, this dish is a crowd-pleaser that’s both comforting and delicious. It’s easy to prepare and pairs wonderfully with meats, vegetables, and gravies.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs (1 kg) Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes, peeled and cubed

  • 4-6 cloves garlic (adjust to taste), minced or roasted

  • ½ cup (120 ml) whole milk or heavy cream, warmed

  • 4 tbsp (60 g) unsalted butter

  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

  • Optional garnish: chopped parsley or chives

Directions

  • Place the peeled and cubed potatoes in a large pot. Cover them with cold water, adding a pinch of salt to the water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce to a simmer. Cook for 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are fork-tender.
  • For Roasted Garlic: Roast the garlic cloves wrapped in foil at 375°F (190°C) for about 20 minutes until soft and caramelized.

For Sautéed Garlic: Heat 1 tablespoon of butter in a small pan over medium heat, then sauté minced garlic until golden and fragrant (about 1-2 minutes).
  • Drain the cooked potatoes and return them to the pot. Let them sit for a minute to allow excess moisture to evaporate.
  • Mash the potatoes with a potato masher or ricer. Gradually add the warm milk, butter, and prepared garlic. Continue mashing until the mixture reaches your desired creaminess.
  • Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Mix well. Transfer to a serving dish and optionally garnish with chopped parsley or chives.
