The Abandons – Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson as matriarchs at first glances to the Netflix Western series

“Two families, two matriarchs, a bloody war”.

Netflix revealed the first official glances and the release date of his next Western drama, the series The Abandons.

The series is starring Lena Headey (Game of Thrones) y Gillian Anderson (Sex Education, The Crown) as matriarchs of two very different families, in a collision that prepares the stage for a story of love, betrayal, and survival.

The streamer set the Western premiere for December 4, 2025 worldwide.

The Abandons It was created by Kurt sutter (Sons of Anarchy, The Shield, Mayans M.C.), although the screenwriter and producer retired from the project in October 2024.

The series was filmed in Calgary, Canada.

What is it about The abandoned?

Set in Washington's territory in 1854the series follows Matriarchs of two very different families: a wealthy and privileged, linked by blood; and the other, a family of orphans and marginalized, united by love and need. The destinations of the families join for two crimes, a terrible secret, a unfortunate love and a land with silver. The clash evokes the American struggle between rich and poor, in a place inaccessible to justice.

The cast also includes Nick Robinson (Jurassic World), Aisling Franciosi (Speak No Evil), Michiel Huisman (The Haunting of Hill House), Diana Silvers (Booksmart), Lamar Johnson (The Last of Us), Natalia del Riego (Hail Mary), Lucas to (MacGyver), Toby Hemingway (The Crossing), Michael Greyeyes (1923), Ryan Hurst (Sons of Anarchy), Katelyn Wells (Ginny & Georgia), Clayton Cardenas (The Cleaning Lady), Elle-Maija Tailfeathers (Three Pines), Brian F. The executive producers are Sutter, Chris Keyer, Robert Askins, Stephen Arguik, Otto Bathurst, Emmy Grinwis, and Jon Paré.

Keyer told Tudum:

“We explore questions that we never usually avoid: what does a family do? How does the good life in an adverse world maintain? Would you change your identity and beliefs to protect what you love? But, in this case, we do it from the perspective of Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson, two widowed matriarchs that fight to survive. And that, as they say, it is really worth seeing.”

The 10 episodes are released at the streamer on December 4.
