Horror movie fans' favorite season is here.

October, better known as “Halloween month,” serves as the favorite excuse to watch horror movies all month, something that is well used by studios and cinemas, whether to release new installments of the genre or re-release classics.

The latter will be the case with Cinemexa chain that celebrates the month of fear with a “Festival of Terror”a space where the audience can relive their favorite horror classics. The menu includes the relaunch of the original delivery Scream of Wes Craven.

Whether you were one of the lucky ones who enjoyed this exceptional horror film when it was released between December 1996 and October 1997 in different territories around the world, or you want to see it for the first time on the big screen, the date is starting this Thursday, October 9 at Cinemex complexes. In Scream (1996):

“One year after the murder of her mother, a teenager is terrorized by a new killer who has chosen her as a target and uses horror movies as part of his deadly game.”

The slasher was directed by Craven from a script by Kevin Williamsonand featured a cast headed by Neve Campbell, David Arquette, Courteney Cox, Rose McGowan, Matthew Lillard, Skeet Ulrich, Jamie Kennedyy Drew Barrymore making one of the most memorable cameos in cinema. The opening scene of Screamis one of the most remembered by the industry and moviegoersand often remembered as one of the best opening sequences in history.

The original saga of Craven and Williamson is classified as the great reason why revived the horror genre upon its release in 1996. Scream changed and showcased the rules of the game with a unique approach to storytellingbecoming a pop culture phenomenon for all time.

Craven and Williamson led entire generations to satirize and question the structure of genre cinema. Especially of the slasher genre, through teenagers frightened by murders that occurred in their community. They intended to discover what would happen next and who the villain was, using what they learned from watching horror movies.

Such was the success of Screamwhich quickly came the consequences: Scream 2 (1997), Scream 3 (2000) y Scream 4 (2011), all directed by the beloved Craven, who died in August 2015 due to a brain tumor. Williamson wrote the script for all of them with the exception of the third.

The franchise was relaunched in 2022 with a fifth installment titled simply Screamwhich featured the return of the original trio, Campbell, Cox and Arquette. In March 2023 it premiered Scream VIwhich broke the record as the franchise's highest-grosser at the domestic box office with $108.1 million and more than $168 million worldwide.

All six films have a combined global box office of more than $908 million.

In February 2026, Paramount Pictures will release Scream 7 with Williamson as the director and executive producer, and the return of many of its original stars.
