After directing some installments of film franchises such as Fast & Furious y Star Trekthe director Justin Lin returns to independent cinema with the drama Last Dayswhich had its world premiere at this year's Sundance Film Festival.

Vertical acquired it for distribution in the US market, and it is the studio that starts the marketing campaign by sharing the first official trailer.

Lin's most recent project, based on a real eventportrays on the big screen the tragic outcome of the Missionary John Allen Chauwhose attempt to change the world led to a brutal end.

The film adapts the Outside magazine article “The Last Days of John Allen Chau” written by Alex Perry, about a missionary who traveled across the world to the isolated North Sentinel Islandand the detective who races to stop him before he makes contact with the island's aggressive natives and potential damage is done.

To have a little context, we tell you that North Sentinel Islandbelonging to the Andaman Islands archipelago in the Indian Ocean, and officially administered by India, is inhabited by a tribe known as Sentinelesewho has been isolated from the world for 60,000 years and rejects contact with the outside world, choosing to live her own way. This island is also known as the island that kills everyone who comes near.. Without official data, it is believed that the tribe consists of 50 to 200 people.

OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS:

“Based on a true story, Last Days by Justin Lin follows 26-year-old John Allen Chau's journey to fulfill his life's mission. In an attempt to find identity, meaning and belonging, he undertakes a proselytizing mission among the Sentinelese of the uncontacted tribe of North Sentinel Island, while a detective from the Andaman Islands races to stop him before he harms himself or the tribe.

The main cast is made up of Sky Yang (Rebel Moon, Whistle), Plus APTE (Sister Midnight), Naveen Andrews (Lost, The Dropout), Ken Leung (Lost, Industry), Toby Wallace (Eden), y Ciara Bravo (Cherry).

The script was written by Ben Ripley (Flatliners).

On Last DaysLin said the following in a press release:

“I feel extremely fortunate to share this journey with everyone who has helped bring this film to the big screen. It's a story that impacted me deeply and I'm excited to share it with the world.”

The story of John Allen Chau has resonated for years, as his death, which occurred in November 2018, caused commotion in many corners around the world, although there are also those who comment that it was his same lack of awareness that led to his fatal outcome.

The producers of the feature film are Lin, Clayton Townsend, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Eric Robinson, Salvador Gatdula, and Andrew Schneider.

Last Days premieres in theaters October 24, 2025.
