The prequel 'The Conjuring: First Communion' will hit theaters in 2027

The cinematic universe of The spell It's not over.

As reported in October 2025, New Line Cinema y Warner Bros. They couldn't resist starting a new chapter –as a prequel– after the success achieved by The Conjuring: Last Ritesbilled as “the final chapter in the Ed and Lorraine Warren files.”

And in some ways it was the final chapter of the Warrens, since it marked the farewell of Patrick Wilson y Vera Farmiga like the demonologists, whom they played since 2013 in the first film, the three sequels of The Conjuringand the spinoff Annabelle Comes Home.

The most recent news from the studios reveals two important details: we already have an official title for the next installment; the prequel will be called The Conjuring: First Communionand it will be arriving in theaters September 10, 2027 (via official site).

It is expected that The next chapter picks up the beginnings and focuses on the couple's early years.. This probably means that new actors will take the reins of the universe of The Conjuring.

And to have a little more context, The Conjuring 4: Last Rites concluded the story of the Warren family, however, during the opening sequence of Last riteswe saw the Warren couple in their beginnings during a flashback, so this could be an idea that is taken up in the prequel. The details of the prequel plot are currently kept under lock and key in a church or in the Warren museum.

The prequel will be directed by Rodrigue Huartwith a script written by Richard Naing e Ian Goldberghorror franchise veterans who co-wrote Last Rites and the spinoff The Nun II.

It will mark Huart's debut as a feature film director. Its short Transylvaniawon the 2024 SXSW Festival Jury Prize.

The Conjuring: First Communion will be the tenth installment of The Conjuring Universe. The sequel to 2025, Last Rites, was crowned the highest-grossing installment of the saga with more than $480 million dollars at the global box office, also extending the dominance of the Universe The Conjuring like the highest grossing horror franchise of all timewith a combined global box office of more than $2.5 billion.

James Wan go on closely linked as producer through his company, Atomic Monster. Wan was in contractual negotiations with Warner Bros., to receive the corresponding credit and a participation in future projects, and after reaching an agreement, his participation in The Conjuring Universe was secured.

Wan created the franchise, directed the first two installments of The spelland has produced all nine deliveries, along with Peter Safran.

In addition to this new prequel, a television series with a house in HBO Maxwhich in September 2025 announced the signing of Nancy Won as screenwriter, executive producer, and showrunner, and Peter Cameron y Cameron Squires as screenwriters.

Without details about the plot, it is known that the series “will continue the story established in the feature films.”
