And the nominees are…

During the early hours of this Thursday, January 22, the Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) revealed the nominations for the 2026 Oscar Awardcorresponding to edition 98 of the most coveted award in the film industry.

Sinners of Ryan Coogler, dominated with a historic 16 nominations, breaking the record as the most nominated film in Oscar historysurpassing the 14 nominations of All About Eve (1950), Titanic (19797) y La La Land (2016).

Sinners competes in the categories of Best Picture, Actor, Supporting Actress, Supporting Actor, Director, Original Screenplay, Soundtrack, Original Song, Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, Sound, Editing, Makeup and Hairstyling, Casting, and Visual Effects.

One Battle After Another of Paul Thomas Anderson He follows him in the race with 13 nominations. Both films are a production of Warner Bros.

Frankenstein, Marty Supreme y Sentimental Value They obtained 9 nominations, each one, with Hamnet following closely with 8 nominations.

The absences that surprised: Guillermo del Toro (Frankenstein) for best director, Chase Infiniti (One Battle After Another) in the category for best actress in a leading role, and Paul Mescal (Hamnet) for best actor in a supporting role.

Probably the biggest surprise of the announcement was that Wicked: For Goodwas not nominated at all, especially considering that its predecessor earned 10 nominations at the previous year's ceremony, taking home two golden statuettes.

No Other Choice of Park Chan-wook is another of those that was left at zero, which is difficult to believe given the enormous quality of its project.
