The live-action series God of War ha found his Odin and Thor.

Mandy Patinkin (Homeland) y Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (Severance) have been chosen to play Odin and Thor, respectively, in the live-action Prime Video series, produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, according to reports from Deadline.

Odin, the All-Father, is neither physically imposing nor particularly divine, but appearances can be deceiving. He is the most powerful Aesir god, a patriarch who leads with an iron fist and a seeker of knowledge without equal. When it comes to seeking prophecies, Odin is paranoid, manipulative and dangerous: he will do anything to try to prevent Ragnarök, the Norse end of days.

Thor is the God of Thunder, an imposing man who has endured many battles in his life, but whose actions in a war fought long ago now haunt him. Once a loyal soldier of Asgard and his father's right-hand man, Thor is now just a shadow of his former self as he drowns in alcohol and tries not to think about the price he paid. Keeping his wife and children at arm's length has only deepened his isolation, but the power (and danger) of the God of Thunder is still there, just beneath the surface.

The actors join those previously announced, Ryan Hurst (Sons of Anarchy) in a leading role as Kratos, Teresa Palmer (The Fall Guy) as Phoebe/Sif, Thor's wife and goddess of family, and Mark Parker like Heimdall.

As a curious fact, Hurst lent his voice to Thor in the video game God of War: Ragnarok.

Based on the ancient mythology-themed PlayStation video game, the series from the writer, showrunner and executive producer Ronald D. Moore (Outlander, For All Mankind), God of Warfollows father and son, Kratos and Atreus, on their journey to spread the ashes of his wife and mother, Faye. Throughout their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father to be a better human being.

Kratos is a Spartan by birth and a god by nature. Raised in a martial culture, he rose to command armies in the service of his homeland until one day he made a fateful pact with Ares, the Greek god of war, and lost his soul in exchange for victory in battle.

Over the course of 10 successful games, Kratos defeated mortals, creatures, and gods alike. In the process, He became an iconic pop culture character., Known for his stoic nature, undeniable combat skills, and tragic past.

In the live action series, Kratos' story will closely follow the path of the previous two games as he deals with something new: his ten-year-old son, Atreus.. This father-son dynamic began a new chapter in the legendary series and will be the driving force of the new series.

Prime Video awarded green light for the seasons. Pre-production is already underway in Vancouver and casting continues to progress.

The series God of War is co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios in association with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions.

Executive producers are Moore, Maril Davis, Cory Barlog, Naren Shankar, Matthew Graham, Asad Qizilbash, Jeff Ketcham, Hermen Hust, Roy Lee, and Brad Van Arragon.
