The filmmaker Zach Creggeralready has a partner confirmed to write the script for the prequel to the horror hit Weapons (2025).

It will be Zach Shields the co-writer of the prequel that will address the origin story of Aunt Gladysperformed by a memorable Amy Madiganin a role that earned her the Oscar for best supporting actress at the ceremony held in mid-March, as well as the SAG (renamed the Actor's Award) in the same category.

The project of New Line Cinema y Warner Bros. is being developed under the provisional title, Gladys (via Deadline).

Plans for a prequel were originally discussed in August 2025, and later confirmed by Cregger in September.

Cregger, Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment, and Miri Yoon return as producers.

Shields has written the scripts for multiple MonsterVerse installments as Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, Godzilla vs. Kong, Godzilla: King of the Monstersin addition to Krampus. In television, he has executive produced Lady in the Lake of Apple TV, and was a consultant on Monarch: Legacy of Monsters from the same platform.

Of plans for a prequel, Cregger said last September:

“I was ready. I already had it in mind before the movie came out [Weapons]”.

Cregger had a chapter dedicated to Gladys and part of her story. Finally, he removed that section from the script Weapons for extension reasons.

With the launches of Barbarian (2022) y Weapons (2025), Cregger is establishing himself as one of the most interesting horror voices of modern times.

In case you haven't seen Weaponstitled The time of disappearance In our region, we tell you that the style of the narrative structure is similar to Barbarian and included a Magnolia by Paul Thomas Anderson, that is, Cregger tells the story in chapters focused on different specific characters, allowing the audience to reconstruct the events from the perspective of each of them.

The film focuses on a small community hit by the mysterious disappearance of a group of children. one night, at 2:17 a.m., 17 children from the same class in a small town mysteriously disappear. The disappearances are captured by images from the security cameras in their homes. In them, children are seen fleeing in the darkness of the night, running with their arms outstretched in the same rigid formation.

What or who is behind what happened? The blame immediately falls on the Maybrook Elementary School children's teacher, Justine Grady (played by Julia Garner), who desperately seeks the truth. Josh Brolin plays Archer Graff, the father of one of the missing girls, who finds it suspicious that only the boys in Justine's class have disappeared.

Weapons It grossed a global box office of more than $270 million dollars, against a production cost of $38 million dollars, resulting in a very profitable run in theaters.
