The horror thriller Victorian Psycho Its marketing campaign officially starts, sharing the first look at its protagonist, Maika Monroeas well as the first poster.
The project will have its world premiere in May, at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival as the opening film of the Un Certain Regard section. Its theatrical release date is set for September 25 in the United Statesby Bleecker Street.
By the way, Bleecker Street replaced A24 as distributor in the national market. A24 had originally acquired the rights in December 2024, however, by May of the following year, both the studio and Margaret Qualley – announced in October 2024 as the protagonist – had exited the project.
That's when Monroe and Bleecker Street join the feature film, directed by Zachary Wigon (Sanctuary) with a hyphen Virginia Done (Mrs. March), adapted from his own novel of the same name.
The film, set in Victorian England, follows the arrival of an eccentric governess to a remote Gothic mansion, where strange events arouse suspicions that she is not what she seems.
In addition to Monroe, the main cast includes Thomas McKenzie (Last Night in Soho), Jason Isaacs (The White Lotus), y Jacobi Skirt (Hamnet, The Exorcist).
OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS:
“In 1858, psychopathic governess Winifred Notty arrives at Ensor House to teach the children. As employees mysteriously disappear, the owners begin to suspect her true motives.”
Dan Kagan (Longlegs) produces the project with his company Traffic, together with Sebastien Raybaud (Greenland) for Anton and Wigon, in association with Anonymous Content. Executive producers are Nick Shumaker and Bard Dorros.
The project marks a new collaboration between Monroe and producer Kagan, following the making of Longlegs.
By the way, Monroe is widely considered one of the Scream Queens of contemporary horror cinema; The actress has participated in projects of the genre such as the acclaimed It Follows y Longlegs, The Guest, Tau, Watcher, Significant Otherand the remake The Hand that Rocks the Cradle. By the way, It Follows is already developing a sequel with the return of Monroe in the leading role.
